About 40 children and adults had a wonderful time at the 2013 District Kids Camp at Camp Missions Meadows. The theme for this Kids Camp was App Camp. The campers enjoyed a week of activities and messages based on popular computer applications, such as Angry Birds-Angry Words, Words With Friends-Words About Friends, Instagram-Your Picture in the World, and EBay- One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. We are all God’s treasures! Other camp activities included rock wall climbing, swimming, cabin competitions, octo-ball, cup stacking, dodge ball, worship time, skit planning, ice cream making, smores and more!

New Pastor for Angola Wesleyan Church

On Sunday, June 23, 2013, the Angola Wesleyan Church congregation voted to call Mike Trippett to serve as its sixth pastor.  Mike is married to Marie Fayette Trippett.  They have a son, Brett (22) and a daughter, Blaire (15).  Mike has served as Pastor of Youth and Young Adults at Gospel Chapel (Wesleyan) in Northampton, PA since 2009.  Mike has been taking courses for ordination through FLAME and has been licensed as a minister by the Penn-Jersey District of The Wesleyan Church since June, 2009.

Rev. Rich Wollan announced his resignation as Pastor of Angola Wesleyan Church in February.  Rich, his wife, Rachel and their family are moving to southern Indiana, where Rich will serve as the Student Services Advisor for Indiana Wesleyan University’s campus in Columbus, Indiana.

Angola Wesleyan Church began as a home Bible Study in 1962 under the leadership of Rev. Richard Kaylor.  In 1963, the church received a gift of a 3-acre plot of land on Herr Road.  This, combined with funds from the 1964 Easter Self-Denial offering from Wesleyan Methodist Churches throughout the nation, enabled the church to build their current building.  They held their first worship service in the building on Easter Sunday, 1965.  On September 2, 2012 Pastor Wollan organized a 50th Anniversary Celebration in which he invited former pastors and parishioners for a day of remembrance and praise for a half century of ministry.

Mike Trippett received the recommendation from the Search Team and the full support of District Superintendent, Joseph Jennings.  After preaching at the church and meeting with the congregation, he received a unanimous vote from the membership.  Mike has accepted the invitation and will begin his ministry at Angola in August.

In Pastor Mike’s written testimony, he recounts the difficulty of a broken home and being raised in foster homes.  In reflection, he continues, “It is so hard to see through all the turmoil and struggle and chaos of a broken life at the time when things are at their worst. We can’t possibly understand how if there is a God, He could allow these things to happen to us. But if we can hold on long enough to feel our way through the darkness and the pain, then we can begin to see God’s true work and plan in our life. It just takes the right person to come alongside with care and compassion to make a difference.  I WANT TO BE THAT PERSON! God has blessed me beyond what I deserve, and I want others to be a part of that blessing, I want to lead the broken into a loving and meaningful relationship with the only one who can truly heal them… Jesus.”

Pastor Mike’s first service at Angola Wesleyan Church will be on August 25.  Please keep the Trippett family, the Angola Wesleyan Church, as well as the Wollan family in your prayers as they make this transition over the next several weeks.

District Unites in Prayer

On November 11, 2012 the district united in prayer at The Vine Wesleyan Church in Depew.   During the week of November 4-11, each church adopted another church in prayer.   A representative from each church  prayed for their adopted church.  The churches each prayed and encouraged the other churches in a variety of very creative ways.  During the service as we offered prayer for each church, we assembled a collage puzzle of all the churches as a visual representation of our unity as a district.
