Here is an Update on the District Canaan Village Project In Haiti.
There are many places in the world in desperate need. Haiti is top of the list. Over the last several year the WNY Wesleyan District Project in Canaan Haiti has barely been able to survive all the turmoil that has come its way. Your support is making an impact. 2021 has been a challenging year for Haiti. Throughout this year, we have seen protests, unrest, and bureaucratic chaos, in addition to COVID-19. The President was assassinated in July. In August, Haiti was rocked by the devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake and showered with Tropical Storm Grace. Fortunately, Canaan was not impacted by the earthquake, but the community did experience flooding due to the heavy rains of the tropical storm. World Hope International continues to be present and is responding to the disaster so that Haiti can rebuild again. Currently, the biggest challenge is frequent gang activity. Through it all, this WNY District project has been steadfast due to the leadership of Pastor Lea and her husband Hubert, helping people in this community endure. We congratulate Pastor Lea and her family who welcomed a new healthy baby boy on July 14th to their family.
Life is challenging for those living in Haiti, all the more reason for the WNY Wesleyan District Churches to continue to come along side this fledging Wesleyan Church. Thank you for your partnership to provide community development to this area in the name of Jesus. In summary, our village partnership has enabled World Hope International to build a two-classroom school; a second building to the school has just started its construction. The new school year started with great hope in September for 100 children. Twenty-two of these students were sponsoredd by World Hope. All 100 students received uniforms, and basic school supplies such as a notebook, pencils, and pens. Other items were provided to the school along with teaching materials. If your church would like to sponsor child from Canaan, Haiti contact World Hope International with your inquires.
Latrines, solar power, and fences have been placed around the school for safety measures. World Hope partnered with Blue Ridge International for Christ to drill a well, the water was tested and was found to be brackish. While it will need to be desalinated to be safe for drinking, the water can still be used for construction, washing clothes, hand washing, and household use for the community members. Solutions for a sustainable and straightforward desalination system are still being explored.
As you finish 2021 and look towards 2022 consider your ability to commit to supporting this village to help this community experience the love of Jesus.
